First lady speaks to Vogue about governor’s affair

A recent article by Vogue magazine reveals some of First Lady Jenny Sanford’s thoughts about her husband’s extramarital affair.

First Lady Jenny Sanford told ABC News back in June, she was determined to stop her husband’s affair with Argentine woman Maria Chapur.

“I’ve done everything in my power possibly to keep him from going to see her,” says Sanford.

Now, for the first time since her husband, Governor Mark Sanford, admitted his affair, the first lady speaks out to Vogue magazine about some specifics. The first lady told the magazine the governor was obsessed with going to see Chapur, and she said the affair was almost like an addition to alcohol or pornography. Sanford did admit to Vogue that she googled Maria Chapur’s name and said she found her pretty.

Jenny Sanford also said she does not blame Chapur as much as she blames her husband’s job. Sanford said she thinks the governor became out-of-touch with reality due to his political world.

Right now the first lady and the Sanford’s four sons are residing in Sullivans Island near Charleston, while the boys attend a private school. Governor Sanford remains living in the Governor’s Mansion in Columbia.
