Various business leaders met in Charleston on Tuesday to discuss the next legislative session, and to clear the air on Governor Mark Sanford’s issues.

Before the next legislative session begins in January, business leaders in the Lowcountry met on Tuesday in Charleston to discuss the hottest topics on the minds of South Carolinians, and what goals they need to set. The Post and Courier reports about 70 businessmen and women showed up to discuss the next session. Among those in attendance were Lowcountry leaders from various industries, schools and other businesses. Some topics of discussion included: more film incentives, a Boeing package for the North Charleston assembly plant, and energy conservation initiatives.

South Carolina Chamber of Commerce President Otis Rawl said in the meeting, before the main topics be discussed, the impeachment of Governor Mark Sanford should be cleared first. Rawl says the 2009 legislative session “was probably the most nonproductive session we’ve seen in Columbia in a long time.” The reason, according to Rawl, was because most of their time was dedicated to the governor’s affair and impeachment issues. Rawl also said in the article that the House will likely consider impeaching the governor, and he hopes they will reach a decision before January.

Last Friday, Governor Sanford spoke at a Ryan’s Steakhouse in Conway to discuss the next session, but many state leaders say Sanford is crippling the state from moving on.
