AirTran Airways had its last flight at the Charleston International Airport Thursday. AirTran Airways landed in Charleston in 2007, and has now made its last flight. The low-cost airline decided to leave the Charleston International Airport after, what the Post and Courier called, poor financial results with local tourism officials and lack of business travel.

To keep the airline in Charleston officials estimated it would cost the airport about $250,000 a month. Some experts say AirTran saved travelers around $80 million a year. Although AirTran filled about 80 percent of its seats throughout the year, most of the seats were sold at discount prices, causing the airline’s finances to struggle.
