A McCormick Correctional Institution inmate has been charged with sending threatening letter to two South Carolina prosecutors. U.S. Attorney Walt Wilkins says 22-year-old Jermaine Nelson threatened to kill Seventh Circuit Solicitor Trey Gowdy and Deputy Solicitor Ryan McCarthy via the mail. The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. Nelson is currently serving a 15 year prison sentence for burglary. He could be fined $250,000 and given five years in federal prison if he is convicted of the threat charges.
