Two Lowcountry Congressman have announced federal investments in two local communities. Sixth District Congressman and House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn along with First District Congressman Henry Brown have announced two federal grants in the Horry County area. The Little River Medical Center was awarded $5.5 million funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The funds are to go toward community health centers. The City of Georgetown also received $2.25 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA to improve area drainage.
In a statement, Brown commented on the medical center award. He says “As we experience such harsh economic times and continued high unemployment, these funds will provide much needed relief to the residents of Horry County served by the Little River Medical Center.” Concerning the grant for the City of Georgetown, Brown says: “Improving the City of Georgetown’s flood and storm water system has long been a priority of mine.”
