Ron Paul:Graham doesn’t realize what young people want

After 13 members of the Lexington County Republican Party Executive Committee voted Monday night to censure Senator Linsey Graham over dispproval of some of his votes, including TARP funds, Graham and others in the Lexington County party pointed fingers at Ron Paul supporters, saying they had driven the censure. U.S. Representative Ron Paul ran for president as a Libertarian in 1988 and then changed to Republican in 2008. Graham says his focus is on growing the GOP to oppose legislation like the Democratic health care bill.

Representative Paul appeared on MSNBC Wednesday night, interviewed by Rachel Maddow, and mentioned Lindsey Graham, saying that Graham, like many Republicans, don’t realize that many young people today, like college students, want to join a party with a different philosophy—i.e. Paul’s platform of limiting the size of federal government, opposing corporate bailouts and changing foreign policy.

“The kids see it and they’re inheriting this mess,” said Paul.  “And that’s where I get excited and enthusiastic, when I go to the campuses, because believe me, the young people responding very favorably to this message.”

Paul serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the Joint Economic Committee, and the Committee on Financial Services, where he has been an outspoken critic of American foreign policy.

Graham stands up to censure, Lexington’s Joe Wilson stands by Sen. Graham

After a group of Lexington County Republicans censured Senator Lindsey Graham, Congressman Joe Wilson, who represents that county in his district, says he stands by his colleague. Graham was reprimanded in a resolution led by members of the party that are South Carolina supporters of Texas Congressman Ron Paul.

Graham yesterday stood by his conservative record.

Congressman Wilson also praised Graham’s record: “We do have different factions within the Republican Party. I’m grateful for the growth of the party in South Carolina, but we also should look at the full voting record of our elected officials and there is no question that Lindsey Graham is a very strong conservative, a very outspoken conservative, a very effective conservative,” says Wilson.

The Lexington County Republican Party Executive Committee voted months ago to commend Wilson after he shouted at President Barack Obama during a joint session of Congress. Wilson was reprimanded by Congress.

New Year’s Day attack on teen a hoax

Authorities in the Greenville County town of Mauldin say that a 16 year old girl confessed Tuesday to making up a story about a man beating her in a Mauldin park. A report, authorities say, put the community on edge for more than three days and caused investigators to waste a great deal of valuable time says Detective Bryan Wright.

“We’ve lost a lot of time on other cases where actually there were victims of assaults and other crimes. It seems very frustrating to us, but justice will be served.”

Mauldin police said they received an anonymous 9-1-1 call on New Year’s Day from someone claiming to have severely injured a female at Sunset Park.

Limehouse aims to protect military members and families

Representative Chip Limehouse has proposed a bill that would use law enforcement to protect servicemen and women in the state, as well as their families. The Charleston Republican wrote the bill after Nidal Hasan killed 13 and injured 30 in Fort Hood. Limehouse says the penalty for such a crime needs to speak measures.

“It makes terrorizing or threatening to terrorize a member of the military or their family a felony in South Carolina, punishable up to 10 years in prison, and up to a $10,000 fine. The threat could be verbally, it could be electronically or written,” says Limehouse.

Limehouse explains what the bill aims to do: “Basically it’s to address the situation we had with the crazy Hasan, Major Hasan there in Fort Hood. He would have had problem after problem swept under the rug by his politically correct superiors who were afraid to address the situation head on,” says Limehouse. [Read more...]
