A bill to reform the Employment Security Commission has been introduced in the South Carolina House. House leaders say it is a package to reduce costs, increase oversight of the Commission, and better connect unemployed workers with job opportunities.
House Speaker Bobby Harrell says the Employment Security Commission needs to be reformed from a check writing agency to a job placement agency. Over the past year ESC officials have asserted that they are doing what they can to connect workers with jobs.
The bill is being called “Immediate Action ESC Reform.” Harrell says a complete, more detailed restructuring of the ESC will be a priority for the House this year. [Read more...]
