The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) crews are preparing for a major winter weather event and have activated its online site for winter weather road conditions. Go to www.scdot.org and click on “Winter Road Conditions.” When snow and ice conditions affect SC highways, the page is activated and reports are updated around the clock by SCDOT personnel in each district several times a day as conditions warrant.

Crews from other areas of the state are heading into the areas most likely to feel the brunt of the icy conditions. The Engineering District based in Charleston County is sending crews to help in the Upstate.

Anti-icing operations were begun in Cherokee, Chester, Fairfield, Lancaster, Union and York counties early Friday morning. Salt-brining operations will continue throughout the day and as required.

The SCDOT Engineering District based in Orangeburg will be sending crews to assist in Anderson County. Williamsbaurg County is also sending crews to York County to provide assistance.Two motorgraders are being sent to Laurens County for assistance.
