Senator Lindsay Graham and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security have announced almost $800,000 in grants to fire departments and rescue squads across South Carolina.
The grants are for operations and safety programs, meaning they can be used for a variety of things including training, new equipment and renovations to existing buildings.
The largest grant was $133,000 the Cordova Fire Department near Orangeburg. Eleven smaller departments also received money in this category. The stations are required to match the grants based on a percentage of their area’s population.
Also. the Pomaria fire department near Newberry received more than $123,000 for a new vehicle, while Santee’s department received slightly less for the same reason.
