Using dueling press releases, gubernatorial candidates Jim Rex and Henry McMaster have challenged each other to square off in a debate.

The Education Superintendent Rex, a Democrat has taken the stance to use cigarette taxes to help fund education and health care in the state.

State Attorney general Henry McMaster took issue and took Rex’s challenge to a debate on the issue, saying he will “meet Dr. Rex anytime, anyplace to debate this fundamental difference between liberals and conservatives.”

Rex countered that McMaster’s campaign is taking contributions from the tobacco industry and “You can’t fix an economy and create jobs if you are addicted to special interest money.”
