The State Board of Education held one of its rare joint meetings Monday with the Education Oversight Committee, to discuss an initiative designed to develop common standards for public education nationwide.
Oversight Committee spokesperson Dana Yow says South Carolina is now among 46 states supporting the Commoncore Initiative. Yow says education officials are currently assessing where the state stands, in comparison to the current Commoncore standards, and whether South Carolina should adopt them. Both the Oversight Committee and the Board of Education will decide this summer whether South Carolina will adopt the Commoncore standards.
