Bauer: I heard that rumor for over a year, but we did not have a thing to do with it

Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, candidate for governor

Gubernatorial candidate Representative Nikki Haley denies allegations that she had an affair with political blogger and ex-Sanford staffer Will Folks.  One of her opponents, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer says the timing of the Haley-Folks allegations may be similar to his speeding ticket and video incidents.

Keep in mind when my driving came out, it didn’t come out when it happened. It happened the week of filing when the Campbell’s tried to push me out of the election. They had gotten the tape from the Highway Patrol, they held it, and then it was released the week that I filed, and they tried to talk me out of running. So, yeah I understand, I’ve seen it happened within my own race.

Bauer says he and his campaign had nothing to do with the affair allegations.

Me nor my campaign has even spent a dollar on opposition research on any person running for governor. We hadn’t spent anything on opposition research, we don’t have a thing to do with it. I heard that rumor for over a year, but we did not have a thing to do with it.

Bauer says he’ll take it even a step further to prove his innocence.

I’m willing to take a polygraph right now and say I didn’t have anything to do with it. I think the easiest thing to do it that the accuser and the accused ought to both do a polygraph and let’s see who’s lying. Let’s get this thing over with and move forward.

Haley is currently the front-runner in the GOP race for governor. The primary is June 8.
