Voice of the candidates: Bolchoz, Wilson for attorney general

As Attorney General Henry McMaster seeks the seat of governor, there are three candidates vying to take his place as that state’s top prosecutor. Among the three candidates running for attorney general, Robert Bolchoz worked as a prosecutor for ten years. After being out of the field, he says he’s ready to get back in and step it up.

I think we need not just a chief prosecutor, but a chief watchdog at the state level to look out for the taxpayers. I’m not sure we have that right now and I think we need it, and that’s what I wanna try and do.

Alan Wilson says he has experience in several areas needed to be Attorney General:

As someone who is the only combat veteran who’s ever served in Iraq that’s running in this race, I’ve had the opportunity to lead soldiers into combat. As the only person in this race that’s prosecuted a case in 21st Century, I have the prosecution experience that the attorney general needs in order to run that office respectively. I’m a conservative who believes in the strict construction of the constitution and believes in strong 10th Amendment rights and state sovereignty and individual liberty.

Also running is Leighton Lord.

Voice of the candidates: Lord for attorney general

As three candidates run for the seat to replace gubernatorial candidate Henry McMaster as attorney general, Leighton Lord says he has what it takes. He says his experience qualifies him to be South Carolina’s next top prosecutor:

Attorney General is the office where I think I can make the most difference in our state. I’ve got experience working with law enforcement, I have experience running one of the largest law firms in the state. I also have experience getting things done. I represented Boeing and their recent move to South Carolina.

Lord says he’s been told the next attorney general will be given less money from the General Assembly. He says if that’s the case, he’s the best many to protect the tax payers, as he says he has proven he can do more with less.

Also running for attorney general are Alan Wilson and Robert Bolchoz.

Senators vote to bring roll call voting to floor (AUDIO)

The South Carolina Senate approved an attempt Thursday to bring up a proposal that would require roll-call voting on votes taken in the senate. The vote was 15-13 to recall the bill from committee for debate on the Senate floor.

Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell spoke aggressively against the recall, saying that the bill is unconstitutional.  McConnell says any Senator who wants a roll call vote on a particular piece of legislation can request one, or modify the rules to add different types of bills to the list of those requiring roll call. He and other Senators will fight the legislation.  McConnell called the measure a political stampede.

Lexington County Republican Jake Knotts said he would object to any bill being recalled to the floor this late in the year, with only one week left, since there is important legislation still to deal with.

But Spartanburg Republican Shane Martin said he just wanted the proposal debated.
