SCRN 11:30 primary report

Jim Rex came up short in his bid for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination

Not every race was decided in Tuesday’s primary election. The biggest race yet to be determined will be Nikki Haley and Gresham Barrett for the GOP’s gubernatorial nomination. Haley finished 49 percent of the vote, just short of taking the nomination outright.

SCRN’s Michael Brown closes out tonight’s reports with the final results and the latest from the Tim Scott and Paul Thurmond campaigns.

The polls are closed and the votes are counted; however, the coverage is far from over. SCRN will continue to report all the latest election news.

Haley and Barrett could be headed for a runoff

Will there be a runoff in the GOP gubernatorial race? That depends on who you ask. Nikki Haley is still holding out hope that she can get it done tonight. With close to 70 percent of the precincts reporting, Haley currently has close to 49 percent of the vote. Gresham Barrett has 21 percent, and Henry McMaster is third  with 18 percent.

SCRN’s Michael Brown ‘s 11:00 primary report features Barrett along with the latest from democrat Frank Holleman’s headquarters. Holleman is trying to replace Jim Rex as Superintendent of Education.

Bill Connor is in a tight race

Here is SCRN reporter Michael Brown with our 10:30 primary report featuring a report from William Christopher at the Trey Gowdy headquarters in Greenville. Gowdy is leading the 4th Congressional District GOP primary. 

We also have an update on Bill Connor in Columbia, who is locked in a close one with Ken Ard for Lt. Governor.

Campbell running third in House race

SCRN’s primary coverage is in full gear with over half of the precincts reporting their results. Nikki Haley continues to hover close to the coveted 50 percent threshold needed to avoid a runoff in the GOP gubernatorial race. Attorney General Henry McMaster currently has about 18 percent of the vote.

McMaster is featured in our next report from SCRN’s Michael Brown along with a report from Carroll Campbell’s headquarters in James Island.

McMaster hasn't had many reasons to smile thus far

SCRN’s primary coverage continues with reports from our correspondents across the state. There is  no shortage of storylines to follow. Nikki Haley is very close to that coveted 50 percent mark in the GOP gubernatorial race, and on the Democratic side Vincent Sheheen has already claimed victory.
