Voice of the Candidates: Cooper for lieutenant governor

In the race for South Carolina’s next lieutenant governor, Ken Ard and Bill Connor are waiting for the June 22 runoff to see who will represent the Republican Party. On the Democratic side, Ashley Cooper ran unopposed.

I’m the only candidate that I know of that the day that I announced I said ‘I’m not running to serve a party or ideology, I’m running to serve a state.’ We’ve got serious challenges, I think we all know it. We lead the nation in unemployment, we’re at the bottom of the nation in per capita income. I saw an article last week that said our seniors were second in terms of hungry seniors. So, we have a lot of issues to address. I try and go out and reach out to Democrats, independents, and Republicans. What’s different about my campaign is that I’ve done it since day one, so nothing is going to change for me.

Cooper says regardless of who wins, Ard or Connor, on the GOP side, he’s not changing his platform. [Read more...]
