Funeral today for 2-year-old boy found in dumpster

The funeral for the 2-year-old boy, Rodricus Williams, found buried in a dumpster filled with concrete is being held at noon on today in Charleston at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church.

Last week, law enforcement agencies searched for the little boy after his mother called authorities saying he was missing. The boy’s father, Roger Williams, and his girlfriend, Grace Trotman were arrested Thursday on charges of homicide by child abuse, after they led authorities to an abandoned mobile home near where the body was found. The boy was found near Orangeburg, wrapped in a plastic bag, buried with concrete inside a trash bin.

Governor Mark Sanford has designated The Children’s Trust of South Carolina as the lead agency for the state’s coordination of the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program, a new federal program to enhance child well-being. South Carolina is expected to receive more than $2 million in the first year of a five-year grant.

The home visitations will focus on improving childrens’ health and development, early learning, child abuse and neglect and prevention, as well as family support.

Sue Williams, chief executive officer of The Children’s Trust, says it’s an important grant, at the right time.
