The University of South Carolina’s Beaufort campus may change it’s name. USC Beaufort vice chancellor Lynn McGee is getting opinions of community leaders on whether or not the university’s coastal branch should change it’s name. One suggestion- USC Sea Islands. The reason some officials at the school say the name should change is so the school isn’t secluded to just Beaufort, and could reflect a much broader region.
The University of South Carolina Board of Trustees would have to approve the name before it were to change. The name change would mark the first for a South Carolina branch, according to the Beaufort Gazette. The school expects enrollment to double within the next five years.
