A convicted murderer who was caught after being on the run is now back in prison in North Carolina.
Deputies say Thomas Aaron Whitlock, who was mistakenly released from the Moss Justice Center following what Sheriff Bruce Bryant calls an error in documentation, was returned last Thursday to the Bertie Correctional Institute in Windsor, North Carolina.
Whitlock left the York County Detention Center on February 27 and it wasn’t until a day later when authorities realized they’d made a mistake.
Whitlock was found visiting his daughter in Dallas Texas. Sheriff Bryant said earlier this month that there are some changes on the way that he hopes will prevent future mistakes like this one.
Bryant said the details about Whitlock’s release were expected to be explained to the media by mid March, but the Sheriff’s Office now says the incident remains under investigation.
