Columbia police grievance hearing postponed after media dispute

A grievance hearing scheduled Thursday for the former deputy chief of the Columbia Police Department has been postponed after a dispute over media coverage.

Isa Greene says she was wrongly terminated last month following the investigation into the disappearance of lobbyist Tom Sponseller.

The hearing was postponed after a number of news outlets objected when they were told they could not record the hearing on video.

A new date for the hearing has not been set.

Greene was fired following an investigation into the Columbia Police Department’s handling of the Sponseller case.

The CEO of the South Carolina Hospitality Association was missing for three weeks before police found his body in the closet of a parking garage that had been searched two previous times.

A suicide note was later found in Sponseller’s office, which police failed to find in prior searches.

A second Columbia police officer was forced to resign after the investigation.
