A Department of Corrections officer has been arrested in Union County for soliciting prostitution.
Union County Sheriff’s deputies say a state Department of Corrections officer was arrested Monday after he solicited an undercover operative to arrange videotaped sex and a threesome. Investigators said that the undercover operative got text messages from 49-year-old Lee Martin Smith in which he said he would pay up to $300 if he could videotape sex between the operative and another woman and then have sex with both women.
The operatives agreed to meet Smith at a Union County sports complex, where they negotiated the price, according to investigators. Smith left the area, returned after about five minutes, and gave the operative a $100 bill, the report said. The women and Smith then left the area, and Union County narcotics investigators stopped the vehicle and arrested Smith. He is charged with soliciting prostitution.
Smith, who is from Union, was released from the county jail on a personal recognizance bond Tuesday morning. He has worked at the Tyger River Correctional Institution since 1984. He is currently still with the agency, but a spokesman said his case is under investigation.
