Husband now suspect in Charleston woman’s disappearance

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has now labeled the March disappearance of a Charleston woman a “homicide.”

Sheriff Al Cannon says there has still been no sign of Marjorie Gayle McCaffrey since she disappeared from her home on the weekend of March 17. Cannon says husband Robert McCaffrey is a suspect in his wife’s disappearance.

Deputies say McCaffrey gave them false information when thye first began investigating the disappearance. McCaffrey said he left home on March 17 bound for Easley to visit Gayle’s aunt. But Cannon says McCaffrey actually went to northern Greenville County to see a woman he was “interested in.”

That woman is cooperating in the probe, officials say. Deputies say they will do a ‘significant search’ of an area off Highway 61 and Drayton Hall on Thursday.
