Parkour enthusiasts hold up traffic on Charleston bridge

Two men held up traffic on the Ravenel Bridge between Charleston and Mount Pleasant Monday evening because they were “parkouring.”

Parkour means “free running.” An enthusiast will get around a city by running, jumping and climbing the urban landscape to get from here to there.

21 year-old James Tomberlin and 18 year-old Kahrell Wright were doing just that Monday when the unintentionally tied up traffic on the Ravenel bridge for a couple of hours. Emergency crews had to rescue Tomberlin as he was trying to cross the bridge– via the beams under the span.

The pair were charged with disorderly conduct and received bonds of $262 Tuesday. Tomberlin also received a courtesy summons for possession after his rescuers found a small wooden pipe they suspected was used for marijuana.

According to a Mount Pleasant Police report, the two told police they “do things like this for fun.”
