Judge rules father of infant mauled by dog will stand trial

The Ridgeville man charged with homicide by child neglect in the fatal April 20 dog attack of his infant son will see his case go to trial.

Dorchester County Magistrate Katrina Patton conducted the preliminary hearing of the McGrew case Friday afternoon and ruled that a jury would decide if Quintin McGrew put his son at “unreasonable risk.”

The baby was put in an infant swing while McGrew slept in another room with one of his children. His wife, Chantal McGrew, was out at the time taking one of their other children to the doctor.

A dog the family was watching attacked and killed the infant. That dog has since been put down.
