Solicitor pays fine for alcohol charge

Video released from the SC Highway Patrol showing a trooper speaking with Myers on May 25

Eleventh Circuit Solicitor Donnie Myers has paid a $155 fine for an open container ticket he received on May 25 and will no longer have to appear in court Thursday, according to court documents.

Myers was facing the charge after a South Carolian Highway Patrol trooper stopped him last month on suspicions of driving under the influence. The incident happened May 25, but most media outlets learned about it last week.

The patrolman charged Myers with driving with an open container of alcohol after finding a cup of scotch in the car. Myers first said the cup belonged to State Sen. Jake Knotts (R-Lexington), but then said it belonged to his girlfriend.

Myers is not opposed in his reelection bid this year.
