A bank robbery suspect in Columbia didn’t get too far from the scene of the crime . Police arrested and charged 22-year-old Brandon D. Washington with armed robbery Monday afternoon. Washington is accused of robbing the Regions Bank on Columbiana Drive. Witnesses told investigators that Washington, who was wearing a mask, pointed a handgun at a bank clerk and demanded money. While several officers were headed to the scene, one officer spotted Washington and detained him at the 300 block of Harbison Boulevard a short time after the robbery. The stolen money was recovered near the scene. Washington was taken into custody.
