State agents have joined the investigation of a Hanahan murder because of earlier charges levied against the victim.
The victim was identified as 71-year-old Roy Bennett. Investigators believe Bennett knew his killer, as officers say there were no signs of forced entry into the home and no signs of a struggle inside. Hanahan Police are on the lookout for a 2009 silver Toyota Tacoma pickup that they say was stolen from Bennett on Sunday morning.
The State Law Enforcement Division has joined the investigation as a result of previous charges filed against Bennett. In 2009, he was charged by SLED with second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. SLED investigators said Bennett had visual materials depicting minors engaged in sexual activity on a computer at his home. He was further accused of downloading and disseminating these pornographic images through the internet.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office would not say how Bennett was killed, only that officials believe foul play was involved.
