McConnell to be honored in Charleston

McConnell served Senate District 41

South Carolina Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell is being honored at a reception in Charleston. It’s part of the inaugural Legislative Appreciation Reception being held by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at the Citadel’s Johnson Hagood Stadium.

McConnell is being honored for his contributions to the Charleston area during the past 30 years. He became one of the state’s most powerful lawmakers in the state Senate before assuming the mostly ceremonial post of lieutenant governor earlier this year.

McConnell assumed the new post after then-Lt. Gov. Ken Ard resigned last March. Ard was sentenced to five years of probation and 300 hours of public service after pleading guilty to violating state ethics laws in his campaign.
