Upstate nonprofit director accused of taking $40k from group

An Upstate woman was arrested Tuesday after she was accused of taking a large portion of money from a nonprofit she once led.

Karen Elizabeth Bradley was the former executive director of the Spartanburg County nonprofit TOTAL Ministries. Spartanburg Public Safety officials said Bradley turned herself in to police at a county jail Tuesday morning.

Investigators say an audit in June showed that Bradley had taken an estimated sum of over $40,000 for personal use from February to June 2012.

She faces charges of breach of trust with fraudulent intent $10,000 or greater. A judge set her personal recognizance bond at $10,000.

According to its website, TOTAL Ministries is an extension of several local churches that helps assist families that are facing financial crisis.
