Governor Nikki Haley has been tapped to appear for Mitt Romney in some campaign stops. Today, Haley will lead campaign events for Mitt Romney in Ann Arbor and Lansing, Mich., followed by an evening fundraiser in Detroit.
She is serving as what politicos call a “surrogate” — people who can officially speak for the candidate.
This does not mean she has changed her mind about serving as a Romney running mate however. The governor has been clear until now that she is happy to campaign for him and then return to her post in South Carolina.
“There are few things more important to South Carolina’s future than a new occupant of the White House, and now that the legislative session is over, Gov. Haley will do anything and everything she can to help elect Mitt Romney president,” her spokesman Rob Godfrey said in a statement.
Her office says travel costs and expenses will be covered by the Romney campaign.
