The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has charged a 19-year-old man with murder in connection to a shooting that left one person dead at a Waffle House near Johns Island in July.
Deonte Brown of Ravenel was charged Thursday with murder. Brown surrendered to investigators a few days after the shooting and was originally charged with attempted murder for injuring another man inside the restaurant. The July 15 shooting at a Waffle House on Savannah Highway took the life of 19-year-old Dantaye Reed of Ravenel.
According to investigators, Brown was involved in a fight inside the restaurant with a 28-year-old man. After the altercation, Brown is accused of taking out a gun and firing a shot that struck the other man.
An incident report states that Brown then fired an additional round as he was leaving the parking lot. Those shots struck Reed, who later died at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital.
