Berkeley County authorities have confirmed a second body found late Wednesday is that of another woman who vanished over the weekend.
County Coroner Bill Salisbury says the body is that of 22-year-old June Guerry, who disappeared with her friend 18-year-old Dana Woods last weekend. Woods’s body was found near her burned-out car in the Francis Marion National Forest on Tuesday. Guerry’s body was found about 10 miles away. Both had been killed by gunshot wounds, Salisbury said.
Salisbury said a man visiting a nearby gravesite in the Alvin community found Guerry’s body. Both she and Woods were last seen at a fast food restaurant in Moncks Corner, about 15 miles from their St. Stephen home. So far, deputies have not released any information about who they think killed both women.
However, the coroner did tell reporters that Guerry’s body was found because someone had put her sweatshirt up a tree. Salisbury said he thinks the killer placed it there so authorities would find the body in a nearby ditch.
The FBI is helping with the investigation.
