Hugh Leatherman (R-Florence), the powerful chairman of the Senate Finance Committee has called a special meeting of his committee for Tuesday. He wants to hear from the director of the state revenue department about the massive security breach.
One that Secret Service Agent Michael Williams described as “one of the largest breaches that we’ve dealt with.”
A hotline the state set up was flooded with phone calls from taxpayers this weekend who were given a code to use online. The governor’s office says it is continuing to increase the number of people assisting South Carolinians.
That number 1-866-578-5422, and online www.protectmyid.com/scdor has been established to connect taxpayers to Experian’s protection services.
Governor Nikki Haley, State Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel, and other state officials will hold a news conference at 10 a.m. at the State House to update and answer questions.
