Rising Lone Star politicians to appear at SC party conventions

Castro, CruzTwo side of Texas politics will be represented in South Carolina the weekend of May 3.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) will keynote the state Republican convention dinner and  Democrats have announced Congressman Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) will speak at their convention the same day.

Both men of Latino lineage from the Lone Star State are rising stars in their respective parties.

Cruz, the former Solicitor General of Texas and Associate Deputy Attorney General for President George W. Bush, was elected as the Junior Senator from Texas in 2012.

Castro and his twin brother Julian, the mayor of San Antonio, had active roles in the Democratic National Convention in 2012

Vice President Joe Biden will also speak at the Democrats’ Jefferson Jackson fundraising dinner and will honor Rep. James Clyburn’s 20 years in Congress

Republicans at their Silver Elephant Banquet will honor retired U.S. Senator Jim Demint, who now heads the Heritage Foundation.
