Sheri Few made her bid for the state’s highest education office official Friday at the state Department of Education building in downtown Columbia.
Few is the second Republican to announce her intentions to run for Superintendent of Education. The position is currently held by Republican Mick Zais, who said he will not run for reelection in 2014.
State Rep. Andy Patrick, R-Hilton Head, made his announcement earlier this week. There are two Democratic candidates who have also announced so far.
Most recently, Few has worked on a statewide campaign against the federal Common Core. Previous to that, she has advocated for abstinence-only sex education in public schools.
