South Carolina Army National Guard military police will be deployed to the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.
According to the Associated Press, the 131st Military Police Company in Beaufort has been told it should prepare for a potential deployment in October.
It will be the first time a South Carolina National Guard unit has been sent to Joint Task Force Guantanamo, which oversees the U.S. military prison holding about 80 suspected terrorists.
About 100 troops will be deployed.
For security reasons, no exact dates for the deployment have been released at this time.
