Gov. Nikki Haley reflected on the just finished legislative session. The governor said she wanted more of a tax cut. “We didn’t get the full tax cut we wanted. I’ll continue to push for that,” Haley said Thursday.
Haley suggested eliminating $41.1 million in funding through vetoes to the $7.5 billion state budget Thursday.
Haley released her list of the 51 budget vetoes of what she called old fashioned pork. “Earmarks are starting to get a little more out of control again and there getting less transparent. So we’re starting to see earmarks hidden in other things,” said Haley.
Haley also vetoed a study of moving the Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum from Columbia to Charleston. The museum is the home of the last Confederate Battle flag to fly on the State House grounds.
Lawmakers return next week to accept or override the vetoes.
