The company that owns a pizza crust maker plans to move its operations out of Spartanburg this fall, costing the region 125 jobs as it moves operations to North Carolina.
New Jersey-based B&G Foods said last week it will not renew its lease for Mama Mary’s pizza crust in Spartanburg and will instead shift its baking to a company-owned facility in Yadkinville, NC. B&G purchased Mama Mary’s owner Spartan Foods last year.
“Although this was a difficult decision, we believe that consolidating Mama Mary’s operations with the production facility we own in Yadkinville, North Carolina is in the best long-term interests of B&G Foods, our employees and our stockholders,” Company CEO Robert Cantwell said in a press release.
An employee assistance plan has been put in place to offer severance pay for all eligible employees and support finding new jobs for the 125 affected workers.
Spartan Foods of America was established in 1986 and has made Mama Mary’s Gourmet Pizza Crusts for more than 25 years.
