A North Carolina woman has been charged with murder in connection with the drowning death of her six-week-old baby boy found in a pond near a Myrtle Beach outlet mall Saturday night.
WMBF-TV reports that Horry County jail records show 24-year-old Jameisha Alexander was arrested Monday and charged in connection with murder.
According to the Horry County Coroner’s office, King Khalil Jair Alexander died as a result of drowning after he was found in the pond.
A security guard at the shopping center found the infant lying facedown in pond water on top of a drainage pipe. Police said the guard went into the water and got the baby and started CPR until paramedics arrived .
The crime scene was taped off and officers searched the area trying to find Alexander, but did not find her.
Police said Alexander was found after crashing her vehicle nearly two hours later. The warrant stated that Alexander made no attempts to call for help.
