The bodies of two boaters who fell into Lake Moultrie over the weekend were recovered Monday morning.
Seven boaters were thrown overboard Saturday evening while cruising on the lake. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) spokesman Bob McCullough told South Carolina Radio Network the boat made a hard turn, causing the passengers to fall into the lake.
“Five of which made it back,” he said. “One of those five was transported to the hospital, treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.”
“Two people were down. We had a recovery effort put in place,” McCullough said.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the men who drowned as 46-year-old Nathaniel Hawkins of North Charleston and 57-year-old Jake Williams of Summerville.
The boat’s driver Jacque Bracewell Jr., of Summerville was charged with boating under the influence with great bodily injury and released from the Berkeley County jail on $20,000 bail.
