ITT Technical Institute is closing all of its campuses nationwide.
.According to the Post and Courier, ITT Tech’s four locations in the state enrolled 841 students last fall. The school had locations in Columbia, Greenville, Myrtle Beach and North Charleston
The company said it will not be offering its September quarter.
ITT Tech says the closure is due to pressure from the U.S. Department of Education. It operated 137 campuses in 39 states.
“It is with profound regret that we must report that ITT Educational Services, Inc. will discontinue academic operations at all of its ITT Technical Institutes permanently after approximately 50 years of continuous service,” said a statement from ITT. “With what we believe is a complete disregard by the U.S. Department of Education for due process to the company, hundreds of thousands of current students and alumni and more than 8,000 employees will be negatively affected.
ITT last year had $850 million in revenue, about $580 million of which came from federal student loans.
At least 100 people across the state will be out of a job due to the closing. ITT Tech had 145 faculty staff members in South Carolina, most of them part-time.
