The Carnival Cruise ship Ecstasy will dock in Charleston on Thursday but it will do so with a missing passenger.
The Coast Guard says at approximately 2:30 am on Wednesday 32-year old Rina Patel of Interlaken, NY was reportedly seen falling from the 11th deck, wearing a white dress with pink floral.
Petty Officer Eric Woodall with the District 7 Coast Guard base in Miami, Florida said they received the call about the missing woman at 3:15 a.m. and sent both helicopters and rescue boats to her last known location within the hour.
The Ecstacy was approximately 27 miles southwest of Freeport in the Bahamas when the woman fell overboard and remained stationed there until 9:15 a.m. Thursday when the Coast Guard released the ship to continue it’s way to Charleston.
The ships involved in the search are the Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, the Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew and the Coast Guard Cutter Gannet. The Coast Guard Cutter Bernard C. Webber crew was also diverted to assist in the search.
The Carnival Ectsasy’s last port of call was in Nassau, Bahamas on Tuesday.
