The Department of Defense today reported the death of a U.S. Army soldier from Orangeburg. Specialist Demetrius L. Void, 20, of Orangeburg Sept. 15 at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when a military vehicle struck him while conducting physical training. He was assigned to the 57th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 11th Signal Brigade, III Corps, Fort Hood, Texas.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
Today the body of 20-year-old Marine Lance Corporal Christopher S. Fowlkes will arrive in Gaffney. He died after suffereing injuries in an explosion in Halmand Province, Afghanistan. He was serving in the 2nd Light Reconnaissance Battalion, out of Camp Lejeune, N.C.
