Congressman Joe Wilson, now that he has become a well-known national figure, is in demand for Republican fundraisers. He’ll be in Springfield, Missouri for lunch this Saturday to help out his friend, Roy Blunt of Missouri’s Seventh Congressional District, who is running for US Senate.
This is after his outburst at President Barack Obama during a joint session of Congress. Wilson yelled, “You lie,” when the president said illegal immigrants would not get federal health care coverage.
Lately, he says he has been busy traveling South Carolina to thank his supporters. At the Irmo Okra Strut near Columbia –a festival in the district where he began his political career- Wilson says he was pleased and honored by the support he got. He says, “People were giving standing ovations as I came by, we had a record number of volunteers and I was very humbled by it.”
Wilson is also thanking his supporters outside of his district, as he visits the Upstate for breakfast at the local icons, the Beacon in Spartanburg and Tommy’s Ham House in Greenville.South Carolina Radio Network interviewed the Congressman in our studios today about the following:
