WRHI, Rock Hill
The annual South Carolina State Conference for the NAACP met this weekend– not in South Carolina but in Charlotte. That’s where these meetings have been held for years as a sanction against the state flying the Confederate flag in front of the Statehouse.
The highlights during the conference on Thursday included a job fair and a gubernatorial round table. SC Democrat candidates accepted the invitation to participate in the event.
Charlotte is just over the state line from Rock Hill. President of the Rock Hill NAACP Melvin Poole says the civil rights organization is not only for adults.
“The youth actually have a parallel organization,” said Poole. “They elect their own delegates and run their own convention. Youth are an important part of the organization.”
