Forbes Magazine has ranked Charleston among the “Top 10 Smartest Cities in the World.” Charleston Mayor Joe Riley says Charleston’s top 10 “smartest” ranking by Forbes Magazine gives the city a chance to look toward the economic future.
“I think that during this time of economic challenge it is wonderful to receive such positive recognition. I think for all of us, as we work our way through this time, to look at the great things that are happening and to know that the future is bright,” says Riley.
Riley told a crowd of citizens and local leaders Tuesday some highlights of Charleston’s greatest strengths. He listed some achievements that helped the city gain the recognition.
“Boeing coming to our region, and with Maersk lines staying here. We are opening a wonderful new innovation center next week with the Medical University and the South Carolina Research Authority,” says Riley.
The list consists of the world’s “smartest” cities. Riley explains what this means: “Cities that have livability, creative places, that have great arts, that have lively downtowns, that have wonderful places to work and to play, and I think that is part of this that what the creative people in the world are looking to is to live in places, smart places that are exciting and livable,” says Riley.
Charleston is the second “smartest” city in America.
