Authorities in the Greenville County town of Mauldin say that a 16 year old girl confessed Tuesday to making up a story about a man beating her in a Mauldin park. A report, authorities say, put the community on edge for more than three days and caused investigators to waste a great deal of valuable time says Detective Bryan Wright.
“We’ve lost a lot of time on other cases where actually there were victims of assaults and other crimes. It seems very frustrating to us, but justice will be served.”
Mauldin police said they received an anonymous 9-1-1 call on New Year’s Day from someone claiming to have severely injured a female at Sunset Park.

Officers arrived to find an unconscious juvenile. Investigators now believe that the call was placed by the girl and that she caused her own injuries. No charges were immediately filed. Investigators were interviewing the girl to see if anyone else was involved.
