South Carolina Republican U.S. Senator Jim DeMint has been active in Congress picking up the mantle for the conservative wing of the Republican party and courting the support of the Tea Party movement. Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF) is a political action committee dedicated to electing like-minded conservative leaders to the United States Senate. DeMint has been drumming up support raising funds for conservative candidates across the country working with the SCF. DeMint and the SCF is mobilizing its effort for Florida Senate hopeful Marco Rubio.
“RubioMoneyBomb.com is the money bomb we hope to drop on Marco Rubio. He’s a great young candidate in Florida running for the Senate against more of an establishment Republican. He believes in limited constitutional government and I think he is the hew face of the Republican Party,” DeMint told Fox News Wednesday.
A Miami area attorney, Rubio is former Florida House Speaker. His opponent for the Republican nomination is Florida Governor Charlie Crist. Both are running for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Mel Martinez. Some polls indicate that Rubio has made up a 30 point deficit over the moderate-leaning Crist.
DeMint says the SCF is influential in making sure that the “conservative voice” is heard loud and clear within the Republican Party and across the nation. He says, “What we are trying to do with the Senate Conservatives Fund with people like Marco, and Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania, Chuck Devore in California, and a number of others is to at least give Republicans an option of main stream conservative candidates in the primaries.”
