South Carolina’s top money-making industry is tourism and for the past six years, the state has been studying how to make the most of that.
SC Parks Recreation and Tourism contracted the specialized firm Tourism Development International Ltd to scrutinize the state’s key areas of tourism.
The Waccamaw Grand Strand region, according to the study, is the “dominant tourism area in the state,” as well as a top national tourism destination. The newly-released product development plan for the region says there is still much yet to do for the area to reach it’s potential.
That potential, according to researchers, is becoming “one of the USA’s leading tourism states in less than one decade.”
State Parks, Recreation and Tourism spokesman Marion Edmunds talks about the “tourism product plan” recently released about the Grand Strand.
The tourism plans can be found at www.scprt.com. One of the earliest studies was the Upstate– and now provides a good example. The region has already begun putting the document to work, says Edmunds.
