Nikki Haley has been making public appearances for the past few days to dispute allegations from a blogger that they had an affair. On Charleston affiliate, WTMA, she continues to deny any inappropriate relationship.
I think he will continue to try to do whatever he can to cause questions, but I can assure you that Michael and I have been 100 percent faithful to each other for 13 years, and I am not going to waste energy on this person because that means he wins, and I refuse to do that. When they talk about the calls or they talk about the e-mails, he worked for me. He didn’t want me to disclose it, and I disclosed it anyway because if you’re going to work for me, I’m going to disclose it. I work 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I text message them, I call them, I e-mail them and I expect my work to get done when I want it to get done, and I don’t stop working.
Ex-Sanford aid and political opinion blogger Will Folks has been releasing what he calls evidence. Haley says once she saw she was the front-runner, she knew she had to gear up.
We went from Nikki-who to all of a sudden getting this poll that came out, that surprised us as much as anyone because we weren’t spending our money on polls. All of our money was going toward TV. When we saw that we were up ten points in the poll, we were completely shocked. We celebrated for all of five minutes, then I told my husband, time to get my helmet on, I feel like I’m at the top of a hill with roller blades on, looking down, going ‘oh my God, this is gonna hurt.’
Haley says she’s being completely transparent, but she wants to spend more time on the issues of the state.
Don’t think I’m going to go and bend over backwards to try and prove a false. I’m not going to do that. What I can tell you now is there has not been any proof to show anything. All he has shown is that we worked together. He can keep talking all he wants, and the more he talks about this situation, the more I’m going to talk about the issues of this state and how we are going to clean it up.
Haley is one of four GOP contenders for governor. She is currently ahead of Attorney General Henry McMaster, Lt. Governor Andre Bauer, and Congressman Gresham Barrett in the polls.
