Former State Representative and former mayor of North Charleston Bobby Kinard has shot himself in the head during a traffic stop, while fleeing from the police. Around midnight, a woman called police about a domestic disturbance and shooting in Mt. Pleasant. Once on scene, police found the resident of the house with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. A witness gave officers the description of the vehicle. The officers spotted the vehicle and stopped it.
Former State Representative and former North Charleston Mayor Bobby Kinard was the man inside of the vehicle. Once stopped, Kinard got out, and fatally shot himself in the head.
Kinard was practicing attorney for Kinard Law Firm in Mt. Pleasant. He also served as a Chief Municipal Judge for the City of North Charleston in the 1980s. He was State Representative from 1978 to 1980, and North Charleston mayor from 1991 to 1994.
The man Kinard shot is in stable condition at MUSC.
